It happened again! I was clicking on a link for book A and book B showed up. This time the book B was Logan’s Greenhouse by JaNay Brown-Wood and illustrated by Samara Hardy. And while the book is from 2022 this online link was still fresh and ready for reading. I figured I might as well give it a shot, especially since a second book I tried had the same wrong link and I figured the universe was telling me something.
Now, Logan’s Greenhouse is not my favorite book, but it was a fun and pleasant book. It seemed familiar, but not in the way that I might have read it before. But regardless if I have, this time (or this first time) reading was a treat. We learn about vegetables that grow in the greenhouse of Logan and his family as he looks for carrots for his event. And like a good detective, we find each “potential carrot” and follow the clues. Does it have rings? Or is it orange? Does it grow up or downwards? And so forth.
The illustrations are a bit cartoonish looking, but in a way that is brightly colored and captures your attention. They have details that allow you to play with your listener, mostly as we try and find the carrot for the party, but also you can play “what is that color?” or “Can you find the (fill in blank)”? It can grow with the child. Aimed mostly at the five and up crowd, it works on multiple levels and various ages.
