OMG! Times Ten!
That is how I felt after I read The Crane Girl by Curtis Manley and illustrated by Lin Wang. Though available, I read via an online reader copy and I plan on finding a finished copy as you need to hold this book, I think, to get the entire picture.
The story is dense and deep. We find Manley adapted the Crane Girl/Wife story to fit their needed goals. Still, it feels as if this was a true interpretation of the legend. The afterwards gives more details about this and much more. Everything is worth taking your time for.
Due to the immense amount of richness on the pages, this might not be the best book for a young or overly active reader/listener. However, due to the just WOW WOW WOWIE! Illustrations, you can adapt it to your audience. The work of Wang is fabulous. The details and the colors pop. I will mention in another review that the illustrations/colors punch you in the nose. These do the same thing, with a little less punch. The smoothness of this artwork gives a more calm approach and the tone is softer. The use of colors and details makes everything busy. The text is also on the page, making it crowded, and maybe a bit overwhelming. Still it just means read the details and again, take your time.
Overall, this is an experience book. You will get something different from it each time you read it. It is not a one time read. The illustrations alone are worth any time you spend with it.
