K’s Car Can Go Anywhere!: A Graphic Novel by Jonathan Tune and Eleanor Doughty is an easier graphic novel read due out in October of 2024. I also read it via an online reader copy and not a physical reader copy, therefore, I think any bumps I had was due to the fact I was reading via screen and not the book in my hands.
However, while I might read it again via that reader’s copy, I do not see myself finding a finished copy. Now, I enjoyed the book (it is probably a very solid 3.5 and not a pure 4), but I did not enjoy it enough to own a copy. Still, I do recommend this fun story about a not so “with it” older sister and very much younger brother who (is a little more than a little exasperated at her antics) follows along. Maybe it is not an OMG BEST BOOK EVER but a modern “buddy adventure” that most will enjoy.
Minimal illustrations add to the atmosphere of the action driven story. The siblings, J (brother) and K (sister) go on a road trip. J is less than excited, he just wants to eat his scones and have a quiet Sunday. Well, he packs the breakfast he made, and the two take off in the vehicle K created. Now, the fact they are on a higher floor than the ground doesn’t mean a thing! K has made this baby go anywhere! And if it can’t, she’ll make it happen with her smarts in engineering. This bonding experience might be familiar to a child with a sibling, but also is a fun adventure for the only child.
Good for ages (to read to) six and up; (reading with help and/or solo) aged 7-8 to 10.
