The one thing I have with sequels is that if I read them too far apart, I forget parts of book one/the book(s) before. And that happened with Spirited V02 Go, Ghoul, Go! by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics. I mean, I remembered that Liv is the only living person (if you don’t count the werewolves and creatures of the swamp and such, I don’t count vampires) in a school of mostly ghosts. I remembered that she has two good friends, a “mean-girl” in her life and her family is none-the-wiser to the whole “spooky” thing. But there were a few things I had forgotten (like a plot piece that actually plays a stronger role in book two). Nonetheless, I was able to pick things up easily enough and start on volume two with little bumps.
School isn’t easy. And it’s even harder when you’re the only living person in a school filled with ghosts (vampires, swamp creatures, and werepups). But it’s even harder to be the first human and vampire to try out for the Ghoul Squad (they haven’t had a new member in 12 years, and somehow Vera remembers this and she’s only around 12 herself. Being a vampire might help). But when Liv and Vera decide to try out, Liv has a lot of worries to deal with and remembering the cheer could be the least of them! Humorous and cute, this graphic novel is a fun new series (and yes, please read book one first).
The illustrations are bubbly, and the color is darker but still bright and somewhat happy. The feeling of the story is almost as if Harry Potter was about Hermione, but Liv can’t do magic, the kids are fairly normal (after all, nobody has tried to bite her and a few are even nice, even when the do call her “Living Liv”) and the artwork is the most bubbly book for aged (strong) 8 to 12.
