Bingo Square: Adulthood, which gives me a bingo with Take the Skies, Relation’ship’, North America, You Are Here
Roisin and Joe have been together since their early twenties, a part of a core group of friends that met working at a bookshop and get together regularly. Though their lives may be very different to when they met, the friends love meeting up, and this time it’s at a swanky country house for the weekend. Part of the excitement of the weekend is watching Joe’s new tv show, but when it airs, there are aspects of Roisin’s life on screen that she did not expect to see. Other old tensions arise, and misunderstandings, and Roisin starts to question her relationship with Joe. How much of his work is inspired by his life? Is his cheating main character a representation of himself? And, ultimately, is Joe the right person for her to be with?
Mhairi McFarlane is one of my faves in this genre. I always enjoy her books, and this one is no different. They’re funny and fast paced, and I enjoy the characters and relationships. There’s enough will-they-won’t they going on right up the last pages to keep it interesting, but never as if it’s prolonging the inevitable. Just a delight.
