Love from Godzilla by Olivia Luchini is due late December 2023-early January 2024, but I was able to find an online reader copy. And I am terribly glad I did. It was a rough start to the day that I saw this goofy kaijus, on a hot pink cover. And it was a bit of a sugary book, it was also the pick me up I needed. I am not a cryptic kind of person usually, but I do like them and sometimes something “hits” just right and I want to partake of it (I like button-pins, stuffed toy keychains and socks mostly, though I do have the most adorable larger Jersey Devil stuffed toy from Squishable). However, I love a good story and if they happen to have a Godzilla, Mothman or other monster characters, so be it! I am good to go.
Luchini made a gift book that works for adults and kids (I am not sure of the final format therefore I am not of exact ages) but it is a great Valentine’s Day gift for anyone who likes Godzilla, movie monsters, or cute stories. And not only does it work for the big V-Day, it also works for a birthday, anniversary, or anytime gift. It is clever as we find out what love means to Godzilla with his friends, frenemies and more.
The illustrations are a hoot, and they are smooth, very colorful, minimal details but clever and fill the rest out. Plus, they are cute. I mean really cute. I tend to root for the villain and not for the cute character, but I just could not help myself and wanted to snuggle, them all! I mean hug them and squeeze them and cuddle them and call them George!
