It’s time for another picture book round up review. This time there are two books I enjoyed reading, but did not feel I could honestly do a full review of. Both stories are sweet, but are not necessarily for everyone.
Are you looking for a new book about getting out and about on the farm? Well Tzimmes for Tzipporah is a new book (or will be in September 2023) dealing with a farm during harvest time. It is written by Megan Hoyt and Christine Battuz does the illustrations. The goodies we watch harvested will be part of the Rosh Hashanah celebration. And we are able to enjoy the fun of getting there with our narrator. The artwork is bubbly, happy, and maybe a bit too sugary sweet for some, but really captures the essence of things. Best for younger children, it can work well as a read aloud or one-on-one read.
For the older child we can read Just One Little Light by author Kat Yeh and illustrator Isabelle Arsenault. This story is a story of no matter how hard things are, there is always light. And though one little light might not be able to light up the world, it is a start. And it just might lead you to another light, or someone to yours. It is a contemporary idea that has classic overtones. Between a story we know, an idea that follows thoughtfulness, and illustrious that look like they walked out of the 1940’s, the styles mix. And if they mix well that is compl3et6ly on the reader, as everyone will take away from it what their own thoughts and feelings will put into it
