I like the company Barefoot Books. And I have a book dealer there. She sends me some finished copies. I like her. A lot. And this time she sent me three new board books. Two are from the Our Worlds series, and one is a standalone interactive book.
Starting with the interactive book, Bruno Builder Bakes Bread (Mix-And-Match). The traditional board book sized book is split in the middle. It has the Builder on top and on the bottom a bakers stand with bread being created. And we have inside writers, and artists and all sorts of people that you can either have do their “proper act” (the writer reads a book) or have some fun (the builder dances). Nelleke Verhoeff created a funny book that if you are like me, will have more fun with as an adult than you ever did as a kid, and these things could entertain me for several minutes.
And I might have talked about Our World: Brazil before, but if I have, this board book by Ana Siqueira is worth the second (third or tenth) write up. This series introduces us to not only another culture, but the language as well. The art (by Naida Mazzenga) is cute, simple, clever. Not overly detailed, they get the job done and allow your toddler to see how people are the same and how we are different.
And this goes for Our World: Italy as well. Francesca Di Marzo shows us that we all play football/soccer. And we all eat ice cream, but we just call it different things. There is counting and more in-depth words. There is also a pronunciation guide to help you out. The art is by Nadia Mazzenga.
