I remember reading, and liking, Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. However, as I was reading Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel (still by Rubin) I did not remember a ding-darn thing! And while you can read these two books separately, it does help if you know the first book as there are a few things referenced in book two that are “need to knows.”
This time dragons are not eating tacos, as they have run out of tacos. And it is up to them, and a friend, to figure out how to get more. Never mind it might not be the best idea (really a lot of issues could arise) but they decide to take a time machine (that they all just happen to have) and use it to go back in time to get a fresh supply from the party of book one. And of course, lots of issues happen. There are fires, really messed up time machines, a situation with underwear and finally, they might have a taco left (you know dragons love tacos, so if they have them, they eat them) to plant to make a taco tree.
The total lack of reality (a taco tree? That would be nice, but terribly messy with all that sauce dripping) and the goofy illustrations of Daniel Salmieri will make your child laugh. Everything about the book is easy, straight forward, and that includes the illustrations. They are cute, but not overly realistic, or in other words, they are cartoonish. The colors are soft, but do have pop to them, and the minimalistic illustrations do not overwhelm, and still get the job done.
I recommend for readers who like dragons, tacos, or funny stories, and if you have read the first book. I do wonder if we will get the Sequel to the Sequel in a book three.
