I like Kate Allen of TheLatestKate fame. Their books, journals, and daily affirmations are just what one needs every so often. Sometimes they can be a bit sugary, but they are always what they are: One person who has been there hoping to help you with words that could shine a little light on the situation. And with I Like You: An Encouraging Bedtime Book (Positive Affirmations for Kids) kids can get in on the action.
Everything is sweet and simple. Colors are bright and there is minimal detail, but the ideas of the narrator assuring the character that they will be there for them is told well. The narrator will love the listener when they are brave, scare, neat or messy. No matter the situation, they will be a consent for the person of the book. A perfect bedtime book, the meaning is to calm the child listening, and allowing them to have pleasant thoughts as they drift off to sleep.
The rhyming text is the strength of the book, it helps move an otherwise lack of action story along. That bounce is both soothing and calming, while keeping the listeners attention. There is not a lot going on, but just enough to have a pleasant break from the going ons. And though this book is aimed at children, it might be a fun gift for the fan of Allen, or for a friend and/or family member that might need a little pick me up, or a reminder that they are not alone, and you are thinking of them.
