What do you do when you have four books and are not sure you can do the 250-word reviews for them? Well, if you read the other two book review I did you know that you write about them in groups of two.
This time we will start with the one I liked the least out of these two. However, I’m on It! (Elephant & Piggie Like Reading) is not a book I disliked. Perhaps the repetition of the concept was a little grating after a bit for me, but for the kindergarten and younger reader or listener, the repeating of the action Frog and Goat are doing will be perfect. Early readers can enjoy simple text, a simple idea (all children know their Top/Bottom/On/Off) along with simple, bright images. The game Goat and Frog get into quickly gets out of hand, until they are finally “over it.” The end. It is a very simple book that Andrea Tsurumi and Mo Willems created.
Guess What!? (an Unlimited Squirrels Book) according to my research is the fourth book in the Unlimited Squirrels series. Mo Willems has put his trademark goofy into this book about squirrels, acorn jokes, facts, fantasy, and quizzes. Zoom Squirrel is excited about going to the beach. The countdown starts and the excitement builds and Zoom and friends wait (not so patiently sometimes) until the actual day on the beach itself where it does not go well for our fuzzy friends. A humorous look at anticipation and reality comes alive on the page, along with bad jokes and other goodies. Everything about this book is over-the-top and silly. It is fun for most ages and readers and listeners both can find something to enjoy.
Whether you read to just have a moment of quiet time, silly time or to learn new bad acorn jokes, these books should be on your and child’s TBR list.
