Karen Hallion is one of the best illustrators I have found in the last few years. Her art is sweet, funny and can make pop culture educational as well as entertaining. You can follow them on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites. They have a handful of sites where you can buy their work. I found Never, Never Quit on her Etsy page, so it might not be the easiest find, but worth it.
If you know Hallion’s work, you know that they are famous for “girl power” and “positive messages.” Her characters range from Hermione Granger to Steve Irwin to Mr. Rogers to Wonder Woman to the sisters of the movie White Christmas, to Hamilton to several Star Wars characters to Stacy Abrams to the Statue of Liberty to a few young girls who are you, me, and all “us gals” out there. She also has a young gal that represents herself who is also the star of the book.
I loved the hidden gems throughout the book. You can find images hidden (or not so hidden) of Wonder Woman, the Tardis, the female Doctor and much more. Yes, the actual theme has been done before (do not give up, keep trying, you might not be able to get it perfect the first, second or even third time, but you will keep getting better with practice). But it is Karen H.! I mean you really cannot go wrong with the sweet feeling, the bold colors, the perfectly detailed illustrations, and not only a spunky gal, but her spunky cat, too.
This is a must have for all fans and people new to this artist who will become fans! All ages can partake and enjoy this book. A perfect for graduation or anytime gift. Also works well for one-on-one reading or a group setting.
