In this dumpster fire of a year, the most unexpected highlights in my 2020 turned out to be you, Cannonballers. Just this week, one of LanierHgts’s reviews garnered a comment from the author, Phyllis Fagell, saying that this review was the best thing that happened to her this week. And it’s all because LanierHgts read Middle School Matters. Every single time an author comments on a CBR review, it’s a thrill and really keeps me going; and so I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. The cold, hard truth though, is that what keeps Cannonball Read going is the generous financial support of this community. I’d much rather discuss books than money, but we need to keep a clear eye on the future of CBR. Currently, we’ve raised enough funds to run our site up to February 2021, and we have donated $325 to the American Cancer Society. We have raised part of our operating expenses for CBR13, but we’re not there yet. So we’re setting a goal of $1,300 to raise for CBR13.

2020 Incentives

Printable Bookmarks
All donors in 2020 will receive a link to a free, printable bookmark donated by our very own yesknopemaybe. This project is still in the works, so keep an eye on our social media (and donors, watch your email) for details on this new incentive for 2020.
Donor Raffle
As an incentive, all donors will be entered into a raffle! Every person who donates between November 1 and December 1 will get one entry into the prize raffle drawing. One lucky donor will win the amazing prize package shown below (approximate value over $350.00). Prize winner will be announced after December 1, 2020.
The raffle items consist of all (or your choice of):
- Autographed copy of Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell
- Any remaining item from our 2020 Book Sale fundraiser
- An item of CBR merch (your choice of classic Red Bubble t-shirt, any size tote bag, or the water bottle.)
- $25 gift certificate to the bookstore** of your choice, or an Amazon gift card.
At the end of our fundraising, we will draw one name randomly out of everyone who donated during the previous 31 days. The winner will have their choice of any or all items from the above.
About CBR
Cannonball Read (CBR) is an online, memorial book challenge to read and review 52 books in a year (or 26 or 13) with a mission to donate profits to the American Cancer Society. We’re essentially a virtual book club where participants read what they want and write what they want, all while shouting to the world, “F— Cancer!”
CBR honors Amanda “AlabamaPink” Amos, our fierce warrior queen who lost her battle with cancer in 2009. She was a true Pajiban (see Pajiba), filled with eloquence and sass. Cannonballers since that time have read over 20,000 books in her memory and have donated over $3,000 in her name.
