Did no one learn about exotic pets from You Don’t Want a Unicorn? Guess not! As the young child of that book is back and now, as you probably guessed from the
title, You Don’t Want a Dragon! has wished for a pet dragon. And of course, gets it. But (like unicorns) it is not all fun and games. There is a lot of less than pleasant chores and events that take place
This book is pure Ame Dyckman, therefore, how bad can it be? Well, Dyckman is perfect, but remember, she is the person who has had a variety of hair colors. She likes to talk not only about the squirrels in her yard, name them as well. Not to mention, talks to them. I follow Ms. Dyckman on Twitter and know her books are as quirky as she is. And Dragon is no exception! Remember that wish for a unicorn? And how that went off not as hoped? Well, if you thought that was bad, find out what happens when our protagonist wishes for a dragon! But it is just 1000% fun fun fun as you laugh (and sigh at the crazy end…oh Ame! Just tell the kiddo to wish for one of your books, it will be safer!) your way through this latest Dyckman gem.
And Liz Climo steps up to the plate and knocks the illustrations out! The are bold, simple (but of course, not simplistic) and colorful. They show the antics, love and all the “Oy My! Moments” perfectly. There is color and all the wonderful things coming to life. And like Unicorn, this book is perfect for anyone wanting a pet, but knows better than to get one! (Or at least the ones this kiddo gets in Dyckman’s You Don’t Want series).
