Awww kittens are soooo cute! They just snuggle up on the pages and just are…cute! They are fluffy and adorable and sweet and look so cute in their hardhats. Must post to social media.
Never mind that these kittens in Kitten Construction Company: Meet the House Kittens by John Patrick Green are architects, plumbers, electricians and more. These kittens know how to build! They know how to light things up! They know how to plumb the plumbing! Never mind how cute they are… just take them seriously and you will see what amazing things they can do. Yet, of course, the humans cannot take them seriously (after all, do you take your cat seriously when they “must get red dot”?) Yet, these kittens figure out that a human project to build the mayors new mansion is going to fail (big time) and create a clever plan to not only help the mayor, but show people what they are capable of!
If I have one complaint, it is that there are several pieces of adult humor (or at least humor that might go over a child’s head). It is not “dirty”, but obviously Green put it in there so they adults would have fun when reading to their child. The classroom setting might be a little harder to do a read-aloud with, but it could be adapted even though the graphic novel-meets-picture book is not an easy group read format. It is also great for the first to second grade reader solo reading.
On top of everything else, the adorable illustrations help keep the theme and humor humming along. Book two just came out as well, Kitten Construction Company: A Bridge Too Fur (And a little “geek squeak”: John Patrick Green liked my GoodReads review!)
