The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date #3) is my #NotMyWheelhouse read. I do not do romances. Nothing wrong with them, I think they are lovely things to read. And if I was going to branch out into a romance novel, I believe Jasmine Guillory was a good reintroduction as I have read a Harlequin novel or two, a Jackie Collins and, of course, books with romances in them, but overall, not my cup of tea. But of course, I get their appeal completely!
I mean these next statements with love. This is a cozy read. You know the story. It is a typical romance with comedy tossed in for fun. You do not need a score card to keep track of everyone. There are several characters, but nobody is an extra. Everyone is important to move the story along. They are needed but when they are no longer needed, they practically get a The End to their text. Therefore, you know no more effort needs to be given to them. Maddie, Theo and friends are just pure enjoyment. It does not take a lot of thinking like my first choice for this category (a young adult science fiction book). I was lost by page two with it. Here, I just sat, relaxed, and just had fun.
And again, with love, I did not have to think, which is what I needed. There was no stress. I knew that everything would work out. People who were supposed to belong together would get there eventually. Maddie and Theo are people who dislike each other from day one (due to a misunderstanding) but of course, love their best friend Alexa and want to her to be happy. But when she starts planning her wedding, both Maddie and Theo start to feel a bit left out, and turn to each other in a night of oops, but hot, (really hot) passion. And, we know what goes on from there.
When I was done, I closed the book. Said thank you to Guillory. Wished them best of luck with their writing adventures. And put the book away. But filed it under “Summer Read Recommendation” or “Our Voices” (author and characters of color). If you like romance, fashion, crazy wedding stories this is a book for you!
