I finally sat down and read The Wonky Donkey by the team of Craig Smith and Katz Cowley. And as I was assuming, the funniest part of this book is that video of the crazy lady unable to stop laughing as she reads it and the poor kid with her that has no clue what is going on!
Maybe I would have liked it if I had not seen that infamous video. But, I am not sure. After all the “House that Jack Built” theme can be funny but has been done before. There is nothing new. However, there is a cleverness to the text and illustrations at the same time. I am also guessing to keep book cost down, the download of the song from Scholastic is necessary but how many people can do that? I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that if you buy a physical book still, you might not be the most tech savvy person or want to be tech savvy. I would have liked to have seen the CD added to the book.
If you have not read The Wonky Donkey I do recommend seeing if your libraries copy has not been checked out. Because right now, we are unable to get it at the store as it is on backorder at all our vendors. This book from 2010 has gotten a boost from that video and the publisher was unable to guess that was going to happen.
I am going to leave my donkey reading to Saving Winslow by Creech from now on (as soon as I find my copy anyways).
