This book is pretty adorable. If you liked The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, 84 Charing Cross Road, or The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, you’ll love The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. It’s a book about books. I might even say it’s a book about books about books.
Sara, a Swedish bookseller, becomes friends and pen pals with an elderly woman, Amy, living in Iowa. They eventually decide to meet and Sara gets her tourist visa and hops on over to the United States. When she gets to Broken Wheel, she arrives just in time for Amy’s funeral. Obviously Sara is pretty shaken and disappointed, but the town convinces her to stay for a while and she grows to love Broken Wheel. Throw in a new bookstore, a hunky love interest, some wacky small town characters worthy of Stars Hollow, general shenanigans, and you have the makings of a genuinely enjoyable read.
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend was originally written in Swedish and later translated to English. The translator did a pretty good job. The writing flowed naturally and I really enjoyed it.
