I went into this book knowing very little about it except that there are four different parallel worlds that each have a London. Grey London is our London and called grey because it’s smoky, dirty, and lacks magic. Red London bursts with magic and everything is slightly rose-tinted. White London is coated in a mist of ash and the citizens are crazed by their hunger for power. Black London died long ago.
Kell is from Red London and is one of two known people with enough magic to travel from London to London as an ambassador. He has a little, slightly illegal, smuggling habit that is bound to get him in trouble eventually, but he can’t seem to shake it. Lila is a Grey London thief, just trying to gather enough money to go on a real adventure. When Lila meets Kell, he’s in bit of a spot and they end up entangled in each other’s lives.
I don’t know what to say about this book except that it was incredibly enjoyable and everyone should read it. You’ll love the characters, the writing, the incredibly rich world building. It’s part of a series and the next one comes out early 2016, but the first book wraps everything up nicely and you won’t be left hanging. Still can’t wait for the next one though. I want more of these characters!
