Stop reading after book two! Is my advice.

Five Dark Fates (Three Dark Crowns, #5) by Kendare Blake

February 22, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is the final book in the Three Dark Crowns quartet, which was originally supposed to be a duology, but money, what are you going to do, oh right, trick a bunch of teens (and adults, coughcough) into buying your book series. Yeah, sorry all fans of this series and the author (I’m sure you’re lovely) but I hated this. It doubled down on everything I disliked from books one through three (especially three), and downgraded what I liked (the premise, the worldbuilding). It also […]

This series goes from wasted potential to actively irritating in this book.

Two Dark Reigns (Three Dark Crowns, #3) by Kendare Blake

Ughhhh, I will tell you right now that I am in a foul mood right now, but did the book do that to me? Or is the book suffering because of it instead? Probably both. I don’t honestly care. Soooo cranky. And this book is such a waste, in my opinion. Waste of a good premise. I’m at the point now where the only thing I care about in this series is the lore and the flashbacks to the other queens. The only character I […]

This could have been so much better.

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns, #1) by Kendare Blake

January 23, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

As many reviewers have pointed out before me, this book has a great premise, but a lot of that is wasted on the execution of it. The degree to which you think it’s wasted varies in most of my friends’ reviews, but there does seem to be a consensus that wasted premise is the main problem. It also falls into several YA cliché-traps that I really wish it hadn’t, and just goes far enough in pushing the boundaries of the genre for it to be […]

Three murderous sisters

December 31, 2016 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

3.5 stars. I can’t fully bump this up to 4 stars despite the interesting premise and great ending. There’s too much set up here to really consider this one as having a full narrative arc. However, it’s a very promising start to a series and I’d really recommend it if you’re looking for darker young adult fantasy. Three Dark Crowns takes place in a world where every generation has a set up triplets born to the queen. These triplets are claimed by different factions and […]
