Now only the really tragic sections of the story are left

Sandman, Act III by Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs

December 31, 2022 by Malin 8 Comments

4.5 stars Act III of the full-cast audio adaptation of The Sandman was suddenly released with what felt like absolutely no fanfare or previous advertising. Suddenly, one day, it was just there on Audible. This installment covers the two collections Brief Lives and World’s End, as well as some of the stories collected in the anthology volume Fables and Reflections (the very first volume I ever read). It means we finally get the full and tragic story of Dream’s son Orpheus and his beloved Euridyce, […]

A Surprise, to Be Sure, but a Welcome One

The Sandman Act II (Audio Production) by Neil Gaiman; Dick Maggs

The Sandman Act III (Audio Production) by Neil Gaiman; Dick Maggs

November 8, 2022 by LittlePlat 6 Comments

As I admitted during my review of The Sandman Act I, I am aware that these productions are really pushing the limits of what an audiobook is. But since they are such close adaptions of the original graphic novels, and are tied together with heavy use of a narrator (Gaiman himself), I think it is fair to say that they still count.  I loved Act I very much, but I really didn’t get around to listening to Act II until earlier this year, as part […]

The graphic novel, "The Doll's House" written by Neil Gaiman next to a book bingo card.

Who are the dolls in the doll house? CBR14 Bingo: ‘Verse

The Sandman, volume 2: The Doll's House by Neil Gaiman, Mike Dringenberg (illustrator), Malcolm Jones III (illustrator), Robbie Busch (colorer), Todd Klein (letterer), John Costanza (letter)

CBR14 Bingo: ‘Verse – The Doll’s House is part of the Sandman ‘verse. The Doll’s House introduces readers to the schemes of the Endless.  It contains issues nine through sixteen of ‘The Sandman’ comics wherein Dream sets out to put his kingdom, the Dreaming, back to rights.  A census by castle librarian, Lucien, shows that four major creations have escaped; Brute and Glob, the Corinthian, and Fiddler’s Green. Threaded through is the story of Rose Walker, a human pawn caught in the machinations of the Endless. Desire […]

And so the mythos of Gaiman’s Sandman begins – CBR14 Bingo: Adapt

The Sandman, volume 1: Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman, Mike Dringenberg (illustrator), Sam Keith (illustrator), Malcolm Jones III (illustrator), Robbie Busch (colorer), Todd Klein (letterer)

CBR14 Bingo: “Adapt” – The Sandman has recently been adapted into a television series. I discovered The Sandman graphic novels in 2000 and instantly became a fan (with collectibles to show for it!).  I’m a sucker for beautiful book editions and when the “Absolute Sandman” editions were released I couldn’t resist.  What makes them ‘Absolute’?  To quote  the Amazon blurb, “The Absolute Sandman Vol. 1 collects issues #1-20 of The Sandman and features completely new coloring, approved by the author on the first 18 issues, as well […]

A Whale Would Not Be the Strangest Thing in the Endless Universe – It Gets Stranger

The Dreaming, Volume 1: Pathways and Emanations by Simon Spurrier

The Dreaming, Volume 2: Empty Shells by Simon Spurrier

The Dreaming, Volume. 3: One Magic Movement by Simon Spurrier

It’s The Sandman! I love The Sandman. How did I end up putting a Sandman based property on my White Whale list? I guess The Dreaming ended up a bit on the White Whale side for two reasons: 1) When I read the original Sandman series about ten years ago, I binge read them over a few nights. This helped to both keep my immersion in the series and follow the plot. The original could be confusing as all hell at times. 2) I […]

Scratchy Dreams

The Sandman by Neil Gaiman

January 18, 2021 by Singsonggirl 2 Comments

I bought and started this last year, but only finished it now, so in the 2021 collection it goes. Right in the beginning I’d like to say that I’ve never gotten into audiobooks, I prefer to read myself, but due to a number of circumstances (most of them powered by horniness), I’ve bought a few audiobooks last year and gave them another chance. I’m more used to radio plays and since this basically is one and it stars James McAvoy, my imaginary Scottish husband as […]
