Redeemable trust fund kids

The Nest by Cynthia d'Aprix Sweeney

October 31, 2021 by Wanderlustful Leave a Comment

I have had this mint green brick sitting on my shelf for years- passed on by a friend, I knew that it was a bestseller, likely to be turned into a movie or tv show, and for some reason it always felt like something I ‘should’ read rather than what I wanted to read. Reader, I was wrong! The Nest is a story about the four adult Plumb siblings who are months away from inheriting a reasonably-sized trust fund when a self-made disaster strikes: Leo, […]

Meet the Plumbs

The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney

April 19, 2021 by Jake Leave a Comment

My memory from the last few years is hazy but if I recall correctly, Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s 2016 novel The Nest was one of the breakout hits of the literary year. I remember seeing it everywhere and hearing about its existence, even if I didn’t know the plot. A little research confirmed at least some of this: the book sold for 7-figures to a publishing house and there were like a billion (very available) copies at my local libraries. This no doubt was a hit with the […]

It’s a familyyyyy traditiiiiion (of dysfunction)

June 17, 2018 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

Four siblings are eager to inherit what they affectionately refer to as “The Nest” from their late father. He worked hard his whole life, pinching and living a modest live, and his intention was to provide a modest bump for his children, but his investment practices and a favorable market have swollen the amount beyond what he could have imagined. But, when the eldest sibling’s bad decisions finally catch up with him, they all pay the consequences, literally. Now the nest is almost depleted, and […]

The Nest? More like the Mess!

February 9, 2017 by Julie 5 Comments

Don’t be fooled by the wonderful description of this book!  It’s supposedly an amazing debut novel about a dysfunctional family and the front cover has a blurb by Amy Poehler.  It was even voted as the best book of 2016 and made it to the Goodreads finalist lists. The book takes place in New York city and it’s about the Plumb family, four children who grew up in a fairly dysfunctional house and then made their way in the world.  The Nest in the title […]

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch

September 28, 2016 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Finally, after a few misses, I read a winner. The Nest won’t be my favorite read this year and the convoluted plot probably won’t be one I remember in a few years but it certainly cleansed my pallet and set me back on track for the year.  Leo Plumb is a rich, previously successful (married) playboy who finds himself in a car with a teenage waitress one evening. There is an accident and the Plumb family matriarch empties “the Nest” her late husband left her four children […]

on A family can be two sisters, one of those sister’s descendants, two other sisters, a magic whale, a sentient island, an omnipotent museum, and academic papers
Made a mistake - there's no 'the' in the title. And the book had me at the cover too.
