Underwhelming amnesia rom-com.

Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella

October 8, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

This was my first Sophie Kinsella book, and I wouldn’t say no to reading more, even though this was mostly just an okay read for me. For about the first third or so, I didn’t even really like it, but by the end I was invested. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up for a long time, if ever, except that I pulled it out of my TBR Jar (that thing has been really helpful in cleaning up my shelves, by the way). This book […]

Can You Keep a Secret – Not a secret, but not for me

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

April 7, 2019 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

This book is outside of my usual favorite genres (post-apocalyptic, dystopian, thriller, non-fiction, speculative fiction, and the like) but I reached out to the Facebook hive mind for pre-wedding brain candy reads and this one was recommended by one, and endorsed by many, so I threw it into my suitcase. I haven’t read “Confessions of a Shopaholic” or seen the movie as it’s not the kind of material that appeals to me, but Kinsella’s book was a nice, albeit predictable cotton candy departure for me. […]

IOU

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella

March 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

The main reason why I didn’t give this five stars is that Fixie bugged me up until almost the 50 percent mark of this book. She was a pushover and I noticed that both times she got swept up in a man, that’s all that mattered. I also thought the ending was a bit weak with the mother not being informed about all that went on. I think that would have been better going forward for the family. Maybe there should have been an epilogue […]

I’m clearly an idiot with a Sophie Kinsella problem. Send help.

I’m going to be honest with you. I’m way behind on my reviews, and the books are all starting to mix together in my mind. I’m not sure if I can remember which characters were in London and which were tennis players and who lived on Nantucket, so please bear with me today as I attempt and sort all of this out! I’ll start with the book I liked the least…and yet couldn’t put down. A few weeks ago, Classic reviewed this book and very eloquently (and with […]

Where Classic Gets Bitter

February 13, 2017 by Classic 2 Comments

I didn’t want to be too hard on this book, but sorry it worked my ever loving nerves. What started off as typical chick-lit turned into some hey we are all just the same Kumbaya circle thing that I just got tired of reading. The main character, Katie Brenner, should know enough at her age that no one’s life is perfect. I can’t get over she thought because people were rich that yes they must be happy and be just dancing in the fields singing. […]

Woman Keeps Shopping and is Surprised at Debt

January 25, 2017 by Classic 8 Comments

I am glad that I re-read this book, but feel disappointed overall with how the earlier books in the Shopaholic series no longer stand up. I think it’s because I have already read these books and the latest, that I just feel nothing but flat out annoyance towards Rebecca (Becky) and her hare-brained schemes to not pay her bills, to cover up when she’s in over her head, and somehow through sheer luck to get out of trouble. And then somehow is in the right […]
