I was just comparing my Goodreads total with my CBR10 total, and I was missing a book on CBR. THAT WILL NOT DO! Don’t worry, I figured it out, it’s obvs this book. I think I just read like four Joe Dillard books in a row, and this one got left by the wayside (is that the saying?) So, this is the second to last Joe Dillard book! I believe I liked it. I can’t actually remember right this second. The summer is melting my […]
The end of the Joe Dillard series
So this is the last book of the Joe Dillard series. I’m torn about it, because it covers two very important topics. It tackles race in the South, including false accusations against black men, the Klan, and racism by police. I feel like this topic is covered well, but I’m white, live in the North, and have never had to deal with racism directed at myself (due to being white). The other topic is sexual assault. Here’s where things get sticky. I know that every […]
Two more Joe Dillard books!
I’m writing these two reviews together, because I read the books so quickly and so close to one another! Book 6: So I got distracted by other books for a little while, but I’m back on the Joe Dillard kick! Like I’ve said before, I like the characters. I like his family, and I like the way he practices law. He tried to do the right thing for good people. In this book, he hires a new associate named Charlie. She’s had a rough past, […]
A little girl gets kidnapped, but Joe’s on the case…
So this is book five of the Joe Dillard series. Like I’ve said in my previous four reviews, I like the characters in these books. Nearly immediately, we’re thrown into the story of a little girl (I think she’s 5 or 6) being kidnapped from her bed. Joe’s wife Caroline taught the little girl in dance class for years, so she’s nearly part of the family. As soon as they hear about the kidnapping, Caroline makes them go over to the couple’s neighborhood and look […]
Not today Satan!
So this is the second book in the Joe Dillard series. I actually started with book one and moved on to book two! I think I’m getting the hang of reading now 🙂 I really liked the main character (Joe) in book one, so I’m going to keep reading until I don’t. He was a defense lawyer in book one, and he was burning out at the end. Now he’s a prosecutor. His very first case is a Satanic slaughter of a whole family. It’s […]
Joe Dillard again
This is book three of the Joe Dillard series. We start out this book with a flashback to when Joe’s friend Ray basically saved Joe’s son Jack’s life. Jack had gotten hit in the head at a baseball game, and Ray had strongly suggested that they rush him straight to the hospital, when everyone else was basically like “walk it off”. We flash forward to Ray getting slammed by a judge in court for being a little late to a hearing that he wasn’t even […]
