The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches- Like a warm hug

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

January 18, 2023 by NatteringwPride Leave a Comment

As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules…with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos pretending to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously. But […]

A Sweet Take on Witches

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

January 6, 2023 by Elizabeth 1 Comment

I listened to this book by Sangu Mandanna as an audiobook, read by Samara MacLaren.  It was a sweet, easy read that made my commute fly by.  In The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, it is set out early on (so not a spoiler) that all witches are orphans due to a bungled curse centuries ago.  Whenever a witch is born, she is almost immediately orphaned leaving her to be raised by others.  Our protagonist is Mika, born and orphaned in India then brought […]

Give me all the cozy fantasy you have.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Such a cozy, heartwarming read. I’m so glad I read this, and that I saved it for my Christmas read (even though I barely got any reading done at all on Christmas Eve or Day, because I somehow always forget that my mother does not read and needs to be entertained—anyway we spent all day doing a 1,000 piece Christmas puzzle and then watched Glass Onion, and it was all very good but I wish I could have read more of this book). If you […]

Read too early and posted too late for Halloween

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

This book is The House in the Cerulean Sea except with a het witch instead of a gay orphanage accountant(?). The beats are very similar, from what I remember, but it doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. The adorquirkably named Mika Moon is our protagonist, a half(?)-Indian witch who lost her parents at an early age and was raised by another witch, who serves as the de facto matriarch to a coven of British witches (and, as such, outsourced her upbringing to a series of nannies who […]

Very Secret Society

“You deserve more than what you’re allowing yourself to have.”

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

CBR14Bingo – Cozy: It’s just so adorable and comfy and chockfull of found family feels and tea! I’ve read several of this author’s YA releases, so when I heard she was coming out with an adult romance – and then saw THAT COVER – I was desperate to read it. Add in a slow burn grumpy/sunshine romance? Pure comfort. It’s the book equivalent of sitting by a crackling fire with a hot drink on a rainy day, all warm and cozy under a blanket with […]
