It doesn’t look like I’ll be reading anything other than Kate Daniels for a while…

March 26, 2018 by TheShitWizard 4 Comments

I’m having a lot of fun reading the Kate Daniels series, so much so that I’ve just gone and bought the rest of the series, and I’m ploughing straight on into Magic Bleeds where we find Kate pissed when Curran doesn’t show up to the home-cooked and served in underwear dinner that she’d promised. Which is how, instead of snogging a werelion, she finds herself instead investigating a bar fight which has led not only to a shapeshifter fatality but also an explosion of supernatural […]

I am a ball of conflicting emotions.

March 23, 2018 by narfna 3 Comments

So I actually finished this book almost a week ago but I’ve been sitting on the rating and review because I’m torn. Conflicting thoughts, hate those. Plot: Vanessa Mazur has just quit her job after two years of being a personal assistant to famous professional football player Aiden Graves. He didn’t treat her very well, and she wants to start her own graphic design business, so she’s out. But he shows up at her door after she quits, begging her to come back. I won’t […]

Will be reading more Loretta Chase!

March 21, 2018 by narfna 6 Comments

Well, I see what people like about Loretta Chase! She’s fun. I have been reliably informed that this book of hers is good, but not her best work. I can see that. Parts of it were incredibly enjoyable, and parts of it felt a little under-baked and overwritten. But first let’s talk about the enjoyable stuff, because there was a lot of it. The premise here is really fun. Lady Olympia Hightower gets a little sloshed on her wedding day and decides, hey, actually I […]

Wait a minute…nice boys don’t kiss like that.

SO let’s just start this by saying I’m an asshole who used to judge Romance. Not romance, like flowers and candy (except don’t ever buy me either, please) but Romance with a capital R. The Romance with the swooning damsels and charming rakes and heaving bosoms and covers like this:  I judged the shit out of it. Starting when I was a kid and I first noticed my mom’s drugstore paperback Harlequin novels lying around. UGH I would exclaim WHY DON’T YOU JUST READ A […]

Was slightly put off but quickly came around

March 14, 2018 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

The Philosopher’s Flight has the tagline, “Half science, half magic – entirely fantastic” on the cover, which coupled by the title and women flying had me intrigued right away.  Tom Miller dedicated the book to Abby, “Who once asked why there were so few women in my stories”.  My reaction to those words was excitement at the idea of a woman protagonist that flies with the aid of philosophy (whatever that meant). That illusion was quickly dashed when it was revealed that the main character was […]

There may be more melodrama here than I have the patience with

Spoiler warning! This is book 2 in a series, and as such, the review will contain some spoilers for the plot of book 1. If you want to remain unspoiled, start at the beginning with Air Awakens. Left no choice after her trial and sentencing, Vhalla Yarl, former librarian apprentice is marching to war for the Solaris empire. She’s considered property of the empire and has to use her new and unfamiliar Windwalker powers to help the Emperor and his forces win their conquest of the rebellious […]

I was agog after reading that sentence. Could not read on for five minutes. I mean, wtf.

“Skin covered finger bones”—that’s hilarious. This was a very satisfying review.
