Are YOU ready to join the Dwight Army of Champions?

March 23, 2016 by bonnie Leave a Comment

I watched the British version of The Office when it was released to DVD, and I enjoyed it. Then, I grew to love its American counterpart once it had grown into itself a bit (Season 3 was my entrance to the show). While I was never a huge Dwight fan, I appreciate the complexity and nuance with which Rainn Wilson imbued the character. “Oh, and if you are reading this on a computerized reading machine, F@*& YOU!!!”

I really enjoyed some parts of Rainn Wilson’s biography — tell me more about The Office, and the criminally underrated good/bad movie Sahara! — although some of the navel-gazing, actor-y stuff got a little old. I don’t know why Rainn Wilson named his memoir The Bassoon King, yes he played the bassoon as a teenager but it wasn’t a pivotal part of his growing up. He talks about Dungeons & Dragons, sci-fi books, and his Baha’i faith shaping his childhood more than being a band geek. I suppose it does set the tone of a not-quite-serious look at the boy who would become Dwight Schrute. Rainn Wilson would not have been given a book deal if he hadn’t played Dwight, […]
