Cover of ZomRomCom by Olivia Dade

I was unsure about Olivia Dade’s Zomromcom from the moment she shared in her newsletter that this was what she was working on. I’m not, generally speaking, a big paranormal romance person and certainly a book featuring a woman beginning a relationship with a vampire during a zombie attack certainly falls into that category. But I’ve had great experiences with Dade books previously and was willing to give this one a shot; it certainly didn’t hurt that its bright, fun cover qualified for the Purple Bingo Square.  We begin the story by being dumped into action in progress, and it really hampered my ability to sink into the book initially. Dead gods, decapitated corpses and dastardly ex-husbands

Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher

September 26, 2025 by Malin 1 Comment

CBR17 Bingo: Purple (most of the cover, barring the cover image, is a lovely lavender purple) Stephen is one of the paladins of the Saint of Steel (who was a god, despite the name), who died very suddenly and unexpectedly a few years back. No one thought gods could die, and a lot of his paladins killed themselves and caused massive amounts of damage when it happened. Now, Stephen and the six other paladins who remain are housed at the Temple of the White Rat […]

Come Fly With Me

Air-Borne: The Hidden History of the Life we Breathe by Carl Zimmer

August 10, 2025 by LittlePlat Leave a Comment

Taking a quick step away from genetics and genetic engineering for a moment to write about a slightly different field of biology—aerobiology. A somewhat obscure field of biology that really should not be; if aerobiology had been a more widely recognized and respected field in the 20th and 21st centuries, a major event from five years ago may have played out very differently. I am, of course, talking about the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea that diseases like COVID could spread so easily through the air […]
