Saving Grace

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

January 16, 2022 by Zirza Leave a Comment

I’ve read all of Andy Weir’s books. He’s written three so that’s not exactly a major achievement, but it does give me the opportunity to compare and contrast them. Like most people I enjoyed The Martian but did not care very much for Artemis (which, well-intentioned though it may be, is a textbook example of how not to write a strong female character). I loved Project Hail Mary, though with a couple of caveats. But hey, that’s what reviews are for.  First up: it’s really […]

Hail Mary, full of Grace

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

November 29, 2021 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

According to Wikipedia, “A Hail Mary pass is a very long forward pass in American football, typically made in desperation, with an exceptionally small chance of achieving a completion. Due to the difficulty of a completion with this pass, it makes reference to the Catholic “Hail Mary” prayer for divine help.” When Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary begins, Ryland Grace is the sole living astronaut onboard a spaceship named Hail Mary heading to a distant star as a one-shot suicide mission to save the Earth. […]

This review is brought to you in three levels, according to your tolerance for spoilers. I would like to state, for the record, I think anyone reading this review who hasn’t read the book should go in knowing as little as possible. If you think that’s just a swell idea, please remain at review level one, no spoilers: only the info you can find on the dust jacket. Level two will have some basic premise spoilers, and I’ll go into a little detail about the […]

I look forward to everything Weir writes

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Like many of you, I absolutely fell in love with The Martian when I read it a few years ago. I think I read it the year before I joined CBR, so I don’t have a review of it. I also quite enjoyed Artemis, though I feel that a lot of people were split over that one. In a sense, I think Project Hail Mary is a bit of return to form for Weir: it has more in common with The Martian, I think, than […]
