This novel is pretty far into the Ocotober Daye series so spoilers abound for the previous novels. If you have finished Kate Daniels and need a new fix, I definitely recommend this series, just give it two or three books to find its groove (basically seems like a standard warning for urban fantasy at this point). One thing I appreciate about the October Daye novels is that Seanan McGuire tends to make her characters have to deal with the aftermath of events. After Toby’s mom held […]
Killer Whale fae? Yes please!
I’m catching back up with Toby Daye, who’s settling back into life after the events of A Late Eclipse. Tybalt has done another of his disappear-for-months-on-end acts, but Toby now has a knowe of her own to take care of, and has taken up with Connor again following his separation from Rayseline. But then someone goes and kidnaps the sons of the ruler of Saltmist, from the Undersea, tipping the factions of faerie towards war. Into the breach steps Toby, who not only needs to […]
You can’t choose your parents…
Spoiler warning! This is book 11 in the October Daye series, and because of this it is impossible for me to review this book without revealing spoilers for some of the earlier books. If you want to start at the beginning, the first book is Rosemary and Rue. If you’re not entirely caught up, proceed at your own risk. When the biggest of October “Toby” Daye’s worries is whether she’s going to be forced to sing karaoke during her bachelorette party, it’s safe to say that things are so uncharacteristically […]
Shakespeare knew the Fae
After intending to participate in CBR for years and years, I finally decided to stop intending and start doing. Part of my “intending but not doing” problem is that it takes me forever to actually write something. I can talk and wave my hands with no problem, but writing an email, forum post or comment takes hours of revisions and second guessing. In the hope that I’ll finally start to get over this fear, here I am. I decided to start out easy, with a […]
Out, Out, Brief Candle
This is book 10 in the October Daye series, and as Malin said in her review don’t start here. However, do start the series so you can get here. I think this might be my favorite of the October Daye books, it’s pretty high up in my estimation if it’s not the most favorite. I’m wavering between 4.5 and 5 stars on this one, and I can’t quite make up my mind. It is hard to discuss this book, and it’s plot, without revealing major […]
For trust not him that hath once broken faith
This is book ten in an ongoing series, and as such, REALLY not the place to start. While my review may not have too many spoilers about earlier books in the series, there is a whole lot of history in the books before that is required for this book to be fully satisfying to a reader. Start at the beginning with Rosemary and Rue. After changeling knight and sometime champion of the realm, October “Toby” Daye’s adventures in the Kingdom of the Silences, there is […]
