quiet duty, questionable faith, and children taking on the burdens of their parents

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

April 15, 2021 by andtheIToldYouSos 2 Comments

I’d remembered of course that I should be grateful as always, but hadn’t been able to keep the disappointment from my mind. Kazuo Ishiguro, the master of suffering with dignity, is back with another literary gut-punch. There is no one else who handles quietly doomed duty quite like him. Klara is alive, but not entirely. Never Let Me Go

May 22, 2014 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Rounded up from 2 1/2 It took me longer then it should to read Never Let Me Go, the writing was so flowery I could only read so much in one sitting without getting drowsy. Kathy, Ruth and Tommy grew up in England at a boarding school, Hailsham, with no parents, lots of rules and little interaction with the outside world; they are also expected to produce artwork for a mysterious Gallery. After they graduate, they go to the Cottages where they are mixed with […]
