She sees clearly now that causing mass murder and mayhem was a mistake.

The Genesis of Misery by Neon Yang

September 26, 2022 by Emmalita 2 Comments

The Genesis of Misery is not a queer retelling of Joan of Arc in space, but it also kind of is (…innn sppaaaaace). She led the French to victories against the English. But after some losses, she was captured by the English, tried for heresy, and executed by being […]

You Can Swim Against The Tide

The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang

July 29, 2019 by Emmalita 2 Comments

It’s ridiculous how much story is contained in this short novella. It’s like Hermione’s enchanted purse, it looks small but contains vast worlds and time. In 240 pages, J.Y. I must have looked them up on Amazon and seeing that this one wasn’t too expensive, purchased it to see if I’d enjoy the writing and world building enough to go back and purchase the others in the series. It sat in my “unread” book slot for until June when I finally picked it up to read it. I’m happy to say, that I did enjoy it quite a bit and will be going back […]

Excellent Fantasy Series to Get Hooked On

The Black Tides of Heaven (Tensorate Series) and The Red Threads of Fortune by Jy Yang

March 14, 2018 by ElCicco 2 Comments

With their Tensorate series, author Jy Yang has created a world divided between those who have and those who lack the ability to manipulate the physical world through their own formidable powers. The “haves,” known as Tensors, are able to use their mind/spirit to influence the workings of the Slack, ie, earth (gravity), water (motion), fire (temperature), metal (electricity), and forest (flesh and blood). In this world, the “haves” rule with an iron fist and little mercy, but even so, amongst these privileged individuals there […]
