Luck Be a Lady by Meredith Duran

Luck Be a Lady by Meredith Duran

January 26, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

This was a great romance buddy read! I loved it from beginning to end. I really do need to read more of Duran’s backlist when I get a chance. This is the third book of hers I have done a buddy read on and she’s a great writer. “Lucky Be a Lady” follows Catherine Everleigh. Catherine is an heiress with a problem. If she doesn’t marry, she will end up losing her half of her family’s auction house. Her brother is threatening to force her […]

Spanning Years and Continents. Lives Ruined, Bloodshed. Epic.

The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran

September 4, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I’ve had this novel on my Kindle for ages! I have enjoyed all the Duran romances I’ve read but some of them can get intense, and a romance novel set in India during the mutinies?  That topic definitely has the potential to get dark, and the fact that the novel opens on a shipwreck certainly means this is not going to be a light comedic romance. Emmaline Martin and her parents were on the way to British occupied India for Emma’s wedding.  She has been […]

Flirting over artifacts and forgeries

July 1, 2018 by alwaysanswerb 5 Comments

I’ve had Bound By Your Touch on my reading list for a long time, probably because at some point it was recommended by Malin or Mrs Julien or both. As per usual, a rec from these ladies turned out to be a pretty lovely romance. Heroine is Lydia Boyce, a spinster bluestocking (my favorite!) who works for her father in the trade of collectible Egyptian artifacts. Boyce Sr. is an academic archaeologist actively excavating, and Lydia is essentially his business manager back in Egypt. She […]

That’s One Way to Wake Up and Smell the Roses

June 21, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I picked this one up because after reading Fool Me Twice, since I wanted to read the story of the Duke of Marwick’s brother and Elizabeth Chudderley.  However, I think I may have been in more of a Loretta Chase mood since I also picked up Miss Wonderful around the same time to learn more about Alastair Carsington, the brother whose engagement Rupert refers to mournfully a few times in Mr. Impossible. Basically, it is not that this is a bad romance novel, but I […]

Does It Really Count As Twice If Someone Else Fooled You First?

June 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After The Sins of Lord Lockwood, Malin told me the rest of Duran’s novel were all good if angsty romances as long as I avoided At Your Pleasure.  As a result, I decided to go back a bit further in the Rules for the Reckless series but for some reason picked the second one rather than the first one. Who knows what my thought process was there.  Based on the references, I definitely want to read the stories of Marwick’s brother and Elizabeth, and Olivia’s […]

If You Don’t Want Your Estranged Wife to Show Up, You Probably Shouldn’t Spend Her Money

May 25, 2018 by Jen K 1 Comment

I picked this one up based on Malin’s review.  One nice thing about Cannonball Read is that with Malin, emmalita and Mrs. Julien, I had a nice list of go to authors handy when I finally decided to try romance. However, having worked my way through most historical romance novels by Courtney Milan, Tessa Dare, Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Julie Ann Long, and Sarah McLean among others, I am always excited when I notice a review for an author I had not noticed before. This […]
