Why do I keep doing this to myself?

The Steel Kiss by Jeffrey Deaver

March 14, 2021 by esmemoria 3 Comments

I didn’t like the last Jeffrey Deaver book I reviewed, yet I went right ahead and picked up The Steel Kiss. This is another strangely inert suspense novel with multiple plots that don’t have much to do with each other. I’ve read a ton of Deaver’s books and every time I read a more recent one I hope it will have the same fast pace, ingenious plotting, and stellar twists of his earlier work. It’s not that the plots are so terrible, but they are […]

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/04/30/episode-1-17-see-you-at-the-crossroads-bone-bone-bone/ Wherein I review: 59. Day Shift (Midnight, Texas #2) by Charlaine Harris 60. The Cutting Edge (Lincoln Rhyme #14) by Jeffery Deaver 61. No Time Like The Past (St. Mary’s Chronicles #5) by Jodi Taylor 62. Night Shift (Midnight, Texas #3) by Charlaine Harris 63. Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson A residual Sookie Stackhouse trilogy comes to a real f–ker of an end: great characters, AWFUL names. Deaver goes a little off the rails in the latest Lincoln Rhyme mystery.  I keep chugging through […]

Deaver’s Skin Collector is unfortunately NOT The Bone Collector

June 5, 2014 by Valyruh Leave a Comment

Once again, we see Deaver at both his best and his worst. I am a long-time fan of Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme/Amelia Sachs forensic mysteries, and despite the fact that this latest novel contains Deaver’s hallmark thrills and chills and surprise twists and turns, I felt let down by the end. Perhaps it was because Deaver has such a complicated overlapping of plots that, in order to solve them all, he has our hero make 13th-hour leaps to conclusions which are simply not justified by the […]
