Everything is not what it seems

A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight

March 21, 2022 by donttrustthe_bea 3 Comments

Lizzie Kitsakis is working late in her office one night, at the prestigious New York law firm Young & Crane. It’s not the job she pictured for herself, she was perfectly content working as an underpaid federal prosecutor, but her husband’s alcoholism has forced her hand into taking this better paying, yet less rewarding job handling white-collar cases. She’s about to head home when she receives a collect call from Rikers Island. On the line is Zach Grayson, an old friend from college, now millionaire, […]

Can’t wait for the filmed version of A Good Marriage

A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight

June 4, 2021 by msvreadsbooks Leave a Comment

When I Googled this book, one of the first things that came up is that Nicole Kidman is producing a film version of this story. I can totally see that because of connection with Big Little Lies and The Undoing and the world of rich, beautiful, accomplished New York parents. (I know Big Little Lies isn’t a New York story, but wealthily Monterey might as well be a realized Brooklyn.) Liz Kitsakis is a successful attorney who receives a call from an old law school […]

A Thriller That Does Not Quit

A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight

May 16, 2020 by randirock Leave a Comment

Kimberly McCreight is the author of one of my favorite books, Reconstructing Amelia, so when I saw that she had released a new novel, I had to get my hands on it right away. Thankfully, it was a May selection for the Book of the Month Club, of which I am a proud member. I quickly filled my box, hit ship, and waited anxiously by my mailbox. It finally came yesterday. I sat down to read it, and within the first 50 pages, I knew how […]

Reconstructing Amelia

June 27, 2017 by Ealbrecht Leave a Comment

One day at her law office, Kate Baron receives a call from her daughter Amelia’s school saying she needs to be picked up from school as she has been suspended. Being an only parent, Kate must go there herself to pick her up. On her way to the school, Kate cannot imagine what Amelia could have done to get suspended, she’s a good student. Once arriving at the school, much later than she told the school that she would be there, Kate notices an obvious […]

Beware the gossipy glitter birds

October 10, 2016 by alwaysanswerb Leave a Comment

3.5 stars I experienced highs and lows during Reconstructing Amelia, a maybe-maybe-not YA mystery that alternates between the point of view of fifteen-year-old Amelia and her mother following what appears to be Amelia’s suicide at her swanky private high school. As her mother, Kate, tries to make some sense of the details around Amelia’s death, we also go back to Amelia’s life in the months before her death and are treated to the slow reveal of her spiral. The closer Kate gets to the truth, […]

Quick, Dark Read

June 6, 2016 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

I read and reviewed Ms. McCreight’s previous novel in December – I read it in a day and found it to be really interesting. Similarly to the last time I found her work, I was in an airport bookstore, picked it up, and essentially didn’t put it down until I was finished. The book is told from the perspectives of three women: Molly, a non-profit advocate turned journalist who has one daughter and experienced a stillbirth a couple of years back; Barbara, a ‘perfect mother’ […]
