Main Character as Doorstop

Alex Delaware is a child psychiatrist who helps the police–particularly Milo Sturgis, homicide detective–solve crimes. Evidence, however, does not feature any children. It also doesn’t really feature Alex Delaware. The whole book is Delaware tagging along with Sturgis, while Sturgis interviews suspects and picks apart the crime. Seriously, Delaware has a mere handful of dialogue and contributes virtually nothing to the plot. This might have well been in third person for all the first person insight we get. July 21, 2015 by alwaysanswerb Leave a Comment

Disclaimer: I received this ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Murderer’s Daughter (3.5 stars) is an enjoyable, well-plotted thriller fronted by an intelligent protagonist named Grace Blades. It’s structured so that we learn about her backstory concurrently while she’s solving a murder and, in fact, protecting herself, since she is connected to the victim. Grace, we learn, was born into a dirt-poor, abusive family, and one of her parents ends up murdering the other. Grace is bounced around in foster care […]
