Cinderella should have skipped this ball…

May 11, 2015 by Lynn Leave a Comment

Normally, I like Jennifer Crusie. She can be counted on for some mad-cap adventures, a hot guy or two, and a girl who is kind of a mess but fiercely independent. She’s chick lit, but she’s usually pretty good chick lit. Perfect for an audio book. But The Cinderella Deal left me feeling pretty disenchanted. Daisy Flattery is a free spirited unemployed artist, struggling to make ends meet and struggling to make her paintings speak. Her apartment is a riot of color, and she has […]

Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you

May 6, 2015 by PattyKates 4 Comments

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-wJNpWgss8&w=420&h=315] Patty: Girl. After the dreck that was the subject of our previous review, I needed something reasonable and normal. Good call on this one. Katie: I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it years ago, and recently came across it again when I was looking for something else on my Kindle. I was curious to to find what you thought about it, and to see if it held up over time. So many romances really don’t. Quinn is a small-town art teacher. […]

An amusing contemporary romance with adultery and murder. No, really.

September 7, 2014 by Malin 6 Comments

MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE PLOT OF THIS BOOK IN THE REVIEW: Maddie Faraday is cleaning out her husband’s car and discovers a pair of women’s underpants under the seat that certainly aren’t hers. This isn’t the first time he’s cheated on her, and she decides that enough is enough. Even though she knows her mother and much of their little town will be utterly scandalised if she files for divorce, she just cannot take it any more. That C.L, the cute guy she lost her […]

When matricide isn’t an option

August 27, 2014 by alwaysanswerb 14 Comments

Bet Me had a pair of horrible, horrible mothers. I finished the book a few weeks ago, and moreso than many other details, the utter heinousness of both the hero and the heroine’s mothers sticks with me. I’ve met supercilious and cold women like the hero’s mother, so she was at least someone who I believe exists on the planet, but Minerva Dobbs — our heroine — is cursed, having been born of the nastiest caricature of a human. If this story is to be […]

Bet Me Doesn’t Quite Bite But….Close

January 17, 2014 by Alexis 3 Comments

Cal is a gorgeous charmer who has the unfortunate character flaw of dumping women a few months after making them fall desperately in love with him. Min is a smart, sassy, chubby woman who is far too savvy to fall for a guy like Cal. Only when Cal gets unwillingly drawn into a bet two get Min into bed within a month, it’s GAME ON for Cal and Min! Full disclosure: I’m not a chick lit reader so it’s hard to distinguish if my issues […]
