Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Cbr18bingo And (4th book in the Villain series) Bingo #1 Adversary to the Villain is the fourth book in Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s Villain series, with a fifth and final volume to follow next year. I read the first three volumes last summer and liked them very much. I had intended to do a re-read before jumping into book 4 but I never got around to it and I have some regrets about that. Perhaps if I had reread at least volume three I would have […]

“Oh, of course. Mediocre men receiving positions of power they haven’t earned because of their birthrights. How against the grain.”

Accomplice to the Villain (Assistant and the Villain, 3) by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

All Evie Sage wanted was a well-paying job to support her family that didn’t involve her boss attempting to sexually assault her. Now, she’s the assistant accomplice (she got a promotion!) to The Villain, the kingdom’s most terrifying figure. All her job was supposed to entail was “light paperwork and occasional beheadings,” but now, she’s knee-deep in torture, familial betrayal, a kingdom-ending (or saving) prophecy, and a flirtatious disaster with the boss. All while dealing with the fact that she may not be as sweet […]

And now we wait

Accomplice to the Villain: A Novel by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Accomplice to the Villain is the third installment in Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s Villain Romance/Fantasy series. Since Accomplice just came out in August, I’m probably going to have to wait a while for Adversary to the Villain, which is the projected title for the fourth and final book in the series. Part of me is annoyed at having to wait and part of me looks forward to re-reading everything when the final novel is released. As with the previous books, Maehrer delivers thrilling adventure, bloody action, […]

Apprentice to the Villain is the second of four projected Villain novels (#3 is out now) and continues the romance/fantasy of Evie Sage and Trystan Maverine, aka the Villain. At the end of book one, Evie’s world has been turned on its head. Her boss Trystan has been captured by the evil King Benedict and he thinks Evie is dead. Evie and the rest of the crew at Massacre Manor  have to come up with a plan to get the boss back and save the […]

A slow burn with fire breathing dragons

Assistant to the Villain: A Novel by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Like This Will Be Fun, Assistant to the Villain is a romance/fantasy with a good amount of humor  and thrilling adventure thrown in. Assistant is the first book in a series, and I found this one entertaining enough that I will definitely be reading the next installment Apprentice to the Villain (the third book, Accomplice to the Villain, just came out this year). I’ve sort of accidentally found myself reading romantasy lately, and frankly, it’s kind of a nice break from reality. I liked Assistant […]

Part 2 problems but not really that bad

Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Cozy streak incoming. First up: Apprentice to the Villain. This is definitely a part two, in that it’s still a good continuation of the story, but it focuses on developing the big problems to be resolved later. That means there is less character development, and a lot more emphasis on mutual pining, which really gets irritating. The general lack of clear communication causing misunderstandings and problems in romance is a main reason I don’t read a lot of that, because it’s so very avoidable. Do […]
