Assassin’s Fate: The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy Book 3 by Robin Hobb

by Leave a Comment

Welp, I’ve completed my Hobb-a-thon, the entire 16-volume Realm of the Elderlings series, and Assassin’s Fate was, of course, a beautiful and bittersweet ending to this epic story. I knew that there were going to be tragedies, heroism, and possibly deaths of beloved characters. But even when you know it’s coming, when you know who is going to die (maybe even why and how), somehow Hobb delivers it in such a way that you are completely gutted. You weren’t as ready as you thought. Hobb […]

Let’s Take a Hammer To It.

Dead Hand Rule by Max Gladstone

by Leave a Comment

No one can write a multi-character pile up the same way Max Gladstone does.  Back in 2024, I reviewed the second book in his Craft Wars series, Wicked Problems, which marked the start of the Craft World’s Infinity War Moment. Nearly every man woman and dog (or snake) that we had crossed paths with previously all managed to cross paths with each other. And it was quite explosive. Dead Hand Rule is the direct continuation of the events of Wicked Problems. All the great powers […]

So many magical bastards!

Fool’s Quest: The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy Book 2 by Robin Hobb

Cbr18bingo Success because with this review I have achieved a bingo blackout and for the first time, I have done so without using the “free” space! Book 2 of The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy is 700+ pages of action and heartache. I know there are a few Cannonballers out there who love Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series as much as I do, and I am going to try my best to review Fool’s Quest without spoiling the plot. As ever, there are wild […]

Cbr18bingo You because I love love LOVE  Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings series, and Fitz and the Fool are my favorite characters Fool’s Assassin is the first book in The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy, the final trilogy of Hobb’s epic 16-volume Realm of the Elderlings series. These are some of the best stories I have ever read and I know I will revisit them for the rest of my life. This trilogy picks up about a decade or so after the events of […]

I Thought There’d be More Unicorn.

The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden

by Leave a Comment

Arden has returned to mixing historical fiction with fantasy again. This time insead of medieval Russia, Arden is taking inspiration from the life of the last heiress of Brittany—before France married her off to force a union between the two crowns. The historical Anne of Brittany didn’t exactly have the happiest of lives, but maybe in retelling, things may go differently? The first half of the book did an excellent job pulling me in: Anne is in a precarious position; she knows France is trying to […]

Pirates and Witches and Austen, oh my!

The League of Gentlewomen Witches: Dangerous Damsels Book 2 by India Holton

Cbr18bingo Summer (my final book review of astronomical summer, which officially ends September 22, 2026, at 8:05 pm ET) What a delightful way to end summer! This book had me from page one, and the fact that I hadn’t read the first book in the series did not get in the way of enjoying this one. India Holton imagines a Victorian England in which witches and pirates, who are mortal enemies, abound. They are all thieves of some taste and class (depending on who you […]
