A book from the year of my birth!

The Suspect (Karl Alberg, #1) by L.R. Wright

December 5, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

I’m not quite sure how to talk about this one! I had never heard of it before I went searching for a book to fill this specific Read Harder challenge (⇣), and I’d never heard of the author, either. I don’t think it’s because she was Canadian, I think it’s because she was popular in the 80s and early 90s, and then she and her books faded into the place where books go when they aren’t popular anymore and haven’t been inducted into “the canon”. Beast In View by Margaret Millar

August 4, 2019 by Jake Leave a Comment

Read as part of CBR11 Bingo: Award winner. This book won the 1957 Edgar Award for best Mystery work. This book edged out Patricia Highsmith’s legendary The Talented Mr. Ripley for the 1957 Edgar Award. Both of them are more psychological thrillers than mysteries. Both were written by world class female crime writers, maybe 1 and 1a of the genre. Yet while Patricia Highsmith’s work has endured (she’s the only woman whose works have been republished by the Everyman’s Library), Millar’s were largely forgotten for decades. This […]
