“But the only way to get lucky is to be prepared for luck to find you.”

December 20, 2016 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

When I found out that Bryan Cranston would be publishing a book in 2016, I was on the lookout. I am a late in the game Cranston fan, but there’s something about the roles he’s chosen, and the way he conducts himself in public that spoke to me, and I thought, I’d really like to know what he has to say. Since I had particularly enjoyed his reading of The Things They Carried I decided to go with the audio version. Here’s the thing about […]

Yet another thing Bryan Cranston can do superbly!

December 1, 2016 by badkittyuno 2 Comments

I am a huge fan of Breaking Bad (actually, my husband and I are rewatching it again right now), and I loved Cranston on Malcolm in the Middle back when it was on, too. He’s an excellent actor, both doing comedy and drama, and it turns out he’s a better than average writer as well! “I will pursue something that I love — and hopefully become good at it, instead of pursuing something that I’m good at — but don’t love.” Bryan Cranston grew up with a father […]

Breaking Bryan

November 20, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

Bryan Cranston is one of those people who seemed to pop into Hollywood as a fully formed actor. My first exposure to Cranston was as Hal from Malcolm in the Middle, although as an adult I’ve now seen his earlier work in Seinfield. His star power hit its zenith during his tenure on Breaking Bad. While I was a latecomer to his genius turn as Walter White I was caught up and a rabid fan by the time the series finale aired. “I will pursue something that I love — and […]

“They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried.”

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, narrated by Bryan Cranston

June 8, 2016 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

700 Sundays by Billy Crystal must be an absolutely astounding audio book because I can’t imagine what it must have taken to beat out Bryan Cranston’s reading of Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried. I was so convinced it was award worthy that I went looking it up and was sadly disappointed. This audio experience was one of the most affecting I’ve experienced, and Cranston’s work is simply masterful. Tim O’Brien, through the way he weaves his narrative as beautifully read by Cranston (I know […]
