Daughter of Time

A murder mystery around a mythical history

The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey

March 21, 2026 by tiny_bookbot 1 Comment

It’s an odd thing but when you tell someone the true facts of a mythical tale they are indignant not with the teller but with you. They don’t want to have their ideas upset. It rouses some vague uneasiness in them, I think, and they resent it. So they reject it and refuse to think about it. If they were merely indifferent it would be natural and understandable. But it is much stronger than that, much more positive. They are annoyed. Very odd, isn’t it. […]

A Most Agreeable Murder: pride and prejudice meets Miss Marple

A Most Agreeable Murder by Julia Seales

June 8, 2024 by donttrustthe_bea Leave a Comment

mood music: Cheap Thrills – sia (bridgerton version) This was such a pleasant little book, I’m so happy to have come across it in my reading journey this year. It also helped me discover a new story genre to add to my repertoire – the cozy mystery. Written in the vein of Big Little Lies meets Agatha Christie, the novel is set on an island in West Ireland. We are first introduced to Aoife (pronounced Ee-Fah) and her husband Freddy, a couple that owns a newly opened beach front destination getaway on the island. They are preparing to host the wedding of Jules, a well known online magazine editor, and Will, a popular survival reality star. This is the first big event the couple is hosting, and they hope the media coverage […]

A Tidy Little Mystery

Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie

June 15, 2019 by Ellesfena 4 Comments

I’m in the process of reading all the Hercule Poirot mysteries, but the waitlist for the ebooks at my library is ridiculously long. When I saw that the first Miss Marple mystery was available as an audiobook, I thought it might be a good choice while I wait. The Murder at the Vicarage audiobook is read almost like a play, with a different person voicing each character, and I thought that might be fun as well. The title pretty much sums up the plot: Colonel […]
