Christina Lauren is pretty popular around these parts, and Dating You / Hating You seems to top most lists. The only book I’ve read from the collection is the one that started it all, Beautiful Bastard, and let’s just say I wasn’t a fan. So I broke up with CL and the Beautiful series, and didn’t give it another thought, until Dating You / Hating You was free on the library website, and since all of you guys seemed to like it, I thought I’d […]
I’ve Read Every Book in This Guilty Pleasure Series
The last in a series of ten books and novellas, Beautiful serves as a standalone-ish contemporary romance from writing duo Christina Lauren, as well as providing visits with the five other couples in the group and wrapping all the threads up with a bow. Usually landing on the erotic end of the romance spectrum, Beautiful was pretty tame by Lauren standards, but still in keeping with the authors’ style. Pippa is visiting Boston to see her best friend, Ruby, and take a two-week road trip […]
My embarrassment knows no end
I…I…I’m so embarrassed. This book is a horror and encapsulates so much that is wrong with the romance genre. I devoured it quickly and hated myself the whole time. Basically, I feel about this book the way the heroine felt about the hero the whole time – this is SO wrong for me, but I just can’t keep away. Chloe Mills is a business school student finishing up her degree with an internship at a marketing company. Her boss is Bennett Ryan, the titular Beautiful […]
I have that Madonna song stuck in my head now
3.5 stars Sara Dillon, Chloe Mills’ best friend, dumps her cheating fiancee and relocates to New York when her BFF and her Beautiful Bastard of a boyfriend open a new set of offices there. Out celebrating Chloe’s engagement, Sara meets a tall, sexy stranger in a nightclub and ends up hooking up with him, without even exchanging names. Turns out her sexy f*ck buddy is an old friend of Bennet’s, Max Stella, and he can’t get the alluring lady from the nightclub out of his […]
Quarter Cannonball with a Novella. Sounds Right.
As a quick follow up to Beautiful Player, I do wonder how many of these latter series novellas are just cashing in. I don’t begrudge the authors that, by the way, I just wish it had more of what made Will and Hanna’s full length book fun. Instead her enjoyable cluelessness turned into a stumbling block for the couple. Read the rest of the review, or don’t, it’s pretty cursory and mashed into the larger series summary, on my blog. It does contain this though: […]
Psst: There Is No Secret in This Contemporary Romance
I have reviewed the rest of the Beautiful series by writing duo Christina Lauren in an ongoing post, but since the tone of this latest entry was something different, I decided to review it by itself. To get caught up, this is the series thus far (8 books, 4 couples): Beautiful Bastard Beautiful Bitch Beautiful Stranger Beautiful Bombshell Beautiful Player Beautiful Beginning Beautiful Beloved Beautiful Secret – Let’s begin shall we? Ruby is an engineering intern at a London firm. An American living abroad, she […]
