Today’s interview is with our own book club maven, faintingviolet! How many times have you participated in CBR? My first Cannonball was in 2012 for CBR4, so five years. I had been a lurker on Pajiba for about two years and I finally got up the courage to sign up. I’m so glad I did, I love our little community. Has being a participant changed the way you read? If so, how? I’d say yes in a pretty big way. It got me back into […]
September Stat Round-Up!
My most recent addition to the database is the birth year for each author (when available). I want to see the age at which authors are publishing their books. I just started doing this a few days ago, though, so I don’t have that information for most books. Look for it next month. September stats: 226 reviews (-29% from last month) Average rating: 3.61 stars (-1.4%) Most popular book: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (4 reviews; 4.25 avg) Most popular author: Eric Van Lustbader […]
We Like Banned Books and We Cannot Lie
The list of the American Library Association’s Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of the 21st Century reads like a Best of Cannonball Read list. That’s no surprise, really. With books like To Kill a Mockingbird, The Color Purple, Of Mice and Men, the Harry Potter series, and our most recent book club selection, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, those lists include many wonderful books that we’ve loved and recommended time and again. From CBR4 in 2012 through the end of August […]
Quick Questions with 2 Cannonballers: Pattykates
Questions for both halves of the crackerjack reviewing team: Have you been team-reviewing since the beginning? How long have you been participating, either separately or together? Patty: I participated in CBR 4, I think? Only managed to actually review a handful of books. Katie has been much more diligent about it (as is her annoying, goody-two-shoes way). She took advantage of the fact that I was making love to a bottle of Glenfiddich one night and talked my drunk ass into doing a joint review. […]
Fourth CBR8 Donation to American Cancer Society
Thank you, Cannonballers and friends! We’ve made another donation to The American Cancer Society! This time in the amount of $100. That brings us to $575, which is the largest amount we’ve ever raised. Find out what else you can do to help our mission to fight cancer.
August stat round-up!
Okay, I did a good job this month keeping up to date with the Goodreads information on all the reviews. I’ve added the page count for each book. August stats: 318 reviews (+7% from last month) Average rating: 3.66 stars (+1.1%) Most popular book: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie (7 reviews; 4.21 avg) Most popular author: Sherman Alexie (7 reviews) Most reviews: narfna (congratulations!; 28 reviews) Fiction: 251 reviews (+2.8%) Nonfiction: 60 reviews (13.3%) Uncategorized: 10 reviews (+90%) Most […]
