From the Amazon description: Man about town Arthur Lawton spends his days pursuing entertainment while shoeshine Joe Sprat labors to better his family’s lives. When an argument about nature versus nurture sparks a wager, Arthur swears to a friend he can turn this working man into a gentleman who will pass at a society function. I loved this re imagining of My Fair Lady. It was sweet and funny, and boy did I like Arthur Lawton more than Higgins! I will admit beyond the music […]
Pirates and Kissing
This was such a nice surprise. I expected a raunchy romance with a little bit of pirate stuff thrown in, but this is a proper adventure with sea battles, spies, and a lot of sailing talk, while still focusing on the characters. Kit has been struggling to fix his career with the British Navy after a disastrous voyage has tainted his reputation. He forced to accept a position as a valet just to get back out on the water. His bad luck holds when his […]
Enlightenment Series
I decided to review the whole series on this one (because what is the point of reading a great first novel if the second book sucks?). This series takes place in 1820 and 1822 Edinburgh and London. David is the son of a tenant farmer that has moved to the big city to be a solicitor. After watching the execution of two of his clients, he meets a wealthy man and has a quick but beautiful encounter in a back alley. This begins a bittersweet […]
Upbeat and Fun Romance
So thanks to the recommendation from Mikki Blu (did I get that right?) I checked out this M/M romance by Cat Sebastian, and I loved it! Lawrence is an earl with severe anxiety and a family history of mental illness. He is also an inventor and recently blew the roof off the conservatory. Georgie is a con artist on the run from his criminal gang after he went soft and did not swindle an old widow. They are thrown together in a ramshackle castle that […]
F-ing Viking
Captain Archie Curtis was wounded in an act of possible sabotage. He goes to a country house party in an attempt to find the truth. He is not alone in spying on their host. The mysterious Daniel de Silva is also sneaking around. Curtis is unsettled by his strong attraction to de Silva. He has always dallied with men, at school and in the army, but he never considered himself inverted, he just had his needs taken care of. He never wanted to kiss a […]
Not Firefly
This seems to be a divisive book and I can see why. I had two problems with it: one was a matter of taste, the other was a tension and storytelling problem. The book features a motley crew manning a spaceship. This is where the Firefly comparisons come in, and people that enjoy it seem to see the connection beyond that. And this is where the taste issue comes up, I love Firefly and its brand of humor and quirk. I did not think this […]
