Oh, our little SecUnit has emotions now, a lot of them. Though the start of the book was really slow (and honestly I was so confused about what was going on) once the plot became clear (rescue humans) and then rescue some more humans, Wells didn’t let their foot off the gas. We have our fine murderbot with friends and emotions and he’s going to make sure no one hurts their humans. I honestly laughed a lot through this one, especially when a tiny human decided SecUnit was for hugging/holding onto. And we also get to meet other members of Mensah’s family and we get the return of Sofi who I adore as a character.
Platform Decay follows Murderbot, three and ART as they are attempting to get access to a space station. We find out quickly that someone has taken some people very important to SecUnit and that Barish-Estranza is rearing their ugly head again in this one.
We get some new faces (Farai who I adored and Naja) along with some old ones, Supervisor Leonide. I really liked how that there is an underlying mystery on how some humans got taken and who is chasing them and why. Murderbot was hilarious at times and most of them was like okay cool, Farai is going to kind of be like Mensah, but still be like, I want you to hurt anyone trying to touch my daughter. The asides of Sofi constantly sending Murderbot heart and hug emojis was cracking me up a lot too.
The setting of this space station was confusing to me, but it seemed to be just a big old circle (I am probably wrong) that they had to keep getting through like a video game.
The ending though left some threads still loose, which I assume means we are going to see some more of certain characters in the next book.
