I learned today (June 4 2026) that Marjane Satrapi passed away at 56 years old. It sounds as though she died of a broken heart as it was a little more than a year after her husband’s death. I cannot say how this saddens me. I really have no words. I mean, I can say how she was an amazing author who opened my eyes to a world I would never have known otherwise. How it made me both amazed, horrified and that it was such a gut punch I had to read more. But that does not (and cannot) do her justice, plus, I will be just repeating what others have said, are saying, and will say about her in the future.
I will say I have ordered whatever I could find of her works, even both volumes of Persepolis (which I have read). The only other person that comes to mind immediately that I have done this with was Tomie dePaola, but I couldn’t get all of his works at once. I regret there will be no more new works by them, but we can always find comfort in knowing their work will always be there for us if we need it.![]()
