Note: I read this book in English, but I thought this (Russian?) cover was cool.
So I swear I read this book because somewhere it was recommended as an interesting take on climate change, but it wasn’t actually about climate change. I borrowed the ebook from the library, so I can’t go back and confirm, but I SWEAR the intro specifically says that the book is NOT about climate change. Something bad happened to the sun I think (I’m having trouble remembering because once I was done I blocked it out) and each month / day / year / minute, the Earth gets hotter. I guess all of the icebergs melt and most everything is underwater – hence the book title.
The main character is somehow a combo of boring and squirrely. I thought the premise was interesting, but I started to hate or at least STRONGLY dislike every single character. There are gator gangs, human gangs, binge drinking dudes, and like one woman. I was really lost a lot of the time because things got so weird. At multiple points in the book different people are wearing the head of an alligator.
I’m guessing I missed the point of the whole thing, but it was hard not to with how boring this book was! Even when there were crazy guys hunting each other with big knives I was bored.
The descriptions of the drowned world, including the gigantic plants and animals, and how nature took everything back was really interesting. I could visualize where they were, and how everything looked and felt. That’s why this wasn’t a one star for me. I refuse to go more than two though!
