I had started and stopped this one a few times. Not because I did not enjoy it, but honestly because it was a lot to read in one sitting. The word haunting comes to mind as I think about this one along with sorrow and pain.
I felt for all of the characters we are introduced to in this one and for the main character we get to know who loves animals and feels nothing but pain at what the locals who live among her do to them. A few times you may get frustrated with Janina who is angry about the fact she did not get to choose her own name. But you start to like her despite herself. Her finding one of her neighbor’s she calls Bigfoot dead, is the catalyst for most of this novel you will find. And when more people turn up dead, you wonder if Janina is right and the forest animals and insects are fighting back against the hunters.
The reveals and ending were just…sad. Not morbid in my mind. Just sad all in all. Loved this one and am glad I read it based on a recommendation from a friend.
