I was not going to review DAYGLOAYHOLE #1 by Ben Passmore. Mostly because I really disliked it. I mean I cannot stress how much I really disliked this book. The second reason is you can only get this book via Silver Sprocket’s website. This is probably because it is more of a zine or comic book store comic (so I guess you might be able to locate it at your local comic store), and less of a traditional graphic novel.
But when I realized that Silver Sprocket is a company that has readers, there are people who have a really whackadoo sense of humor, style and way of reading, I realized that just because I thought it was trashy and had no value did not mean someone else would not love it. This book series has an audience and my copy of book one will probably find its way to a friend or family member who is even more warped than me. I won’t say who that person or persons are, but I won’t judge them or you if you ask me the website address, or who has or will read it. You do you my friend(s).
So, the story: This guy is in an extreme post apocalyptic world. Things are beyond Mad Max suckery. Things are horrible, rotten, people suck and things are just really beyond horrible. Yet, this one guy is trying to live, survive, maybe even do a little good. That is if he can find pants, stop talking to his dead dad (I think it was his dad) and get over his porn obsession. This makes things seem straight forward, but there are layers, there are deeper things going on, and then again, you can just take things as surface.
And unlike some books, you can judge this book by the cover (and covers). You know what you are getting yourself into. That’s one good thing about the book, no false advertisement. You see what you get; you get what you see. And, like a lot of books that I was not a fan of, it was an experience to read this book. I rarely regret reading something as I know I have FOMO when it comes to books. What did I miss? I mean the author wrote it for a reason, right? They might just be saying, “Hey I can write a book and get it published” or they might be saying, “I do have a deep message” but either way, I read it and I got to experience something.
